TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Roma 3:9-18

Konteks
The Condemnation of the World

3:9 What then? Are we better off? Certainly not, for we have already charged that Jews and Greeks alike are all under sin, 3:10 just as it is written:

There is no one righteous, not even one,

3:11 there is no one who understands,

there is no one who seeks God.

3:12 All have turned away,

together they have become worthless;

there is no one who shows kindness, not even one. 1

3:13Their throats are open graves, 2

they deceive with their tongues,

the poison of asps is under their lips. 3

3:14Their mouths are 4  full of cursing and bitterness. 5

3:15Their feet are swift to shed blood,

3:16 ruin and misery are in their paths,

3:17 and the way of peace they have not known. 6

3:18There is no fear of God before their eyes. 7

Roma 3:23

Konteks
3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Roma 5:18

Konteks

5:18 Consequently, 8  just as condemnation 9  for all people 10  came 11  through one transgression, 12  so too through the one righteous act 13  came righteousness leading to life 14  for all people.

Roma 11:32

Konteks
11:32 For God has consigned all people to disobedience so that he may show mercy to them all. 15

[3:12]  1 sn Verses 10-12 are a quotation from Ps 14:1-3.

[3:13]  2 tn Grk “their throat is an opened grave.”

[3:13]  3 sn A quotation from Pss 5:9; 140:3.

[3:14]  4 tn Grk “whose mouth is.” Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.

[3:14]  5 sn A quotation from Ps 10:7.

[3:17]  6 sn Rom 3:15-17 is a quotation from Isa 59:7-8.

[3:18]  7 sn A quotation from Ps 36:1.

[5:18]  8 tn There is a double connective here that cannot be easily preserved in English: “consequently therefore,” emphasizing the conclusion of what he has been arguing.

[5:18]  9 tn Grk “[it is] unto condemnation for all people.”

[5:18]  10 tn Here ἀνθρώπους (anqrwpou") has been translated as a generic (“people”) since both men and women are clearly intended in this context.

[5:18]  11 tn There are no verbs in the Greek text of v. 18, forcing translators to supply phrases like “came through one transgression,” “resulted from one transgression,” etc.

[5:18]  12 sn One transgression refers to the sin of Adam in Gen 3:1-24.

[5:18]  13 sn The one righteous act refers to Jesus’ death on the cross.

[5:18]  14 tn Grk “righteousness of life.”

[11:32]  15 tn Grk “to all”; “them” has been supplied for stylistic reasons.
